History of Shekhawati

Shekhawati was known to be the part of the Matsya Kingdom. Shekhawati was included in 'Brahmrishi Desha' according to the 'Manusmriti'. Later it was included in the 'Marukantar Desha' up to Ramayana period. At the time of the 'Mahabharata' Shekhawati was under control of the Matsya Kingdom who were the descendants of fishermen. Famous Hindu 'Vedas' were known to be written and compiled in this land.

Shekhawati region, in ancient times, were a combination of the free republic states, known as ‘Janpadas’. These ‘Janpadas’ were developed during the reign of ‘Aryans’. Shekhawat Rajputs are the famous rulers of this region, who had captured it from ‘Kaimkhanis’ after the ‘Gupta dynasty’ collapse. Battle of Mandan was fought between Shekhawat’s versus Rao Mitra Sen Ahir of Rewari, and Piroo Khan Balochi in 1775. Shekhawat’s rule this region until independence.
