Chand Baori is a beautiful and a renowned step well in Rajasthan which is located in the Abhaneri village of Rajasthan. The village is located on the way to the capital city of Jaipur and indeed it is one of the best tourist attractions of the city. The step well is one of the most prominent and one of the oldest attractions of the city where most of the people come to the see the amazing yet impeccable architecture that is adopted by the kings of Rajasthan. The step well was built by King Chanda who belonged from the Nikumbha Dynasty and the step well was built in the 9th century AD. Chand Baori is stated as one of the largest step wells of the world and it works aso ne of the best and one of the significant water reservoirs of the village during the summers when the water scarcity reaches to its peak.

Chand Baori History

The Chand Baori was built by King Chanda dedicating Harshat Mata and that is why the tourists can also see a beautiful temple dedicated to Harshat Mata who will bless you with extreme joy and happiness. This temple is dated back to the 9th-10th century is dedicated to Harshat Mata, who is called as the goddess of joy and happiness and the whole village of Abhaneri worship with great dedication. Chand Baori is an architectural marvel and is constructed beautifully with 3,500 which are made in perfect size made in well proportioned and narrow steps. This step well is a brilliant structure of delicate geometry that draws visitors to the city. But Chand Baori is not easy to find, and the tourists have to take the help of the local guide to reach here as this is one of hidden wonders of the country. The structure of the step well can make your eyes flashy with the light and shadow that can play with the steps. As you get down to the baori it narrows as you reach to the bottom. There are beautiful carvings made inside the step well and there are beautiful jharokhas made here to allow people sit here. And at the end of the baori you can experience a fall of more than 5 degrees and the water which is really cool that can satisfy the summer and its heat.

Chand Baori Architecture

Chand Baori is an architectural wonder with 3,500 perfectly symmetrical, narrow steps. It has beautiful carvings and design along the steps. The baori narrows as one gets closer to the bottom. A double flight of steps on three sides takes one to the surface of the water below. The fourth side is a three-storeyed pavilion with intricately carved jharokhas (windows), galleries and balconies meant for the royal family to sit in. At the bottom of the well, the air remains 5-6 degrees cooler than at the surface, and Chand Baori was used as a community gathering place for locals during periods of intense heat.

How to Reach Chand Baori

Chand Baori is about 85 km from Jaipur City and one can easily reach here . Tourist can take taxi or hire a cab from Jaipur. It takes one day to explore the Abhaneri area.
