Tilonia, a small village located in Ajmer district in Rajasthan state in western India. It is the permanent home of the world popular Barefoot College. This particular College has been working in order to improve the lives of the rural poor mainly women by directly addressing their usual and common basic needs for income, education, housing, health, water and electricity from 1972. At present this esteemed and world renowned college gives training for rural women who are poor from nearly 49 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America in the field of solar energy and become solar engineers.

The non-governmental organization, Barefoot College was founded by Bunker Roy who is a famous social worker. From the day it was founded, this silent village has gained a place in the tourist map of India for being a model for all the outskirt and remote villages for social and economic development.

Best time to visit Tilonia

With the onset of winter season, between the months of October to March, the native and foreign tourist can visit the village of Tilonia. It is to be remembered that between June to September is the rainy season in this region. If the tourists are comfortable and wish to enjoy the shower in Thar Desert then it is the right time to visit this particular village. It is generally been observed that throughout the year there is good flow of tourists to this village.
