Loading...Tonk city was founded by the Ram Singh who was the servant of Raja Tenon Pal Singh. Taja Tenon Pal Singh was the brother of Raja of Dellhi. Ram Singh founded the city below the hill of Rasia and named it as Tonkara. Several dynasties ruled over Tonk from time to time. Some of them are Chauhans, Solankis and Rajputs. Mughals emperor also ruled over Tonk.
In 1643, Bhola Nath Brahman who belonged to the Gorh caste named it as Tonk.Tonk also becomes the territory of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, Madho Singh, Prithivi Singh, Jaswant Rao Holkar, Kashi Rao Holkar, Pir Ji Sahib, Khande Rao for sometime. In 1806, Amir Khan captured it from Balvant Rao Holkar and later British government done a treaty with him in 1817.
