Rajasthan High Court

The High Courts are the principal civil courts of original jurisdiction in the state and can try all offenses including those punishable with death. The work of most High Courts consists of Appeals from lowers courts in Rajasthan and writ petitions in terms of Article 226 of the Constitution of India.

The High Court of Rajasthan (in-short hcraj ) was established on 21 June 1949 under the Rajasthan High Court Ordinance, 1949.

Before unification of the Rajasthan, there were five High Courts functioning in the various units of the States - Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur (being capital of United Rajasthan with a bench at Kota) and Alwar (being capital of Matsya State) with a total strength of 20 judges.

Kamala Kant Verma was the first Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.

Present Judges strength : Sanctioned strength of the judges is 50 and actual strength is 30
