City Palace in Udaipur : Built in a flamboyant style on a hill top that produces the panoramic view of the Udaipur city and its surroundings is this 400 year old majestic architecture, which is considered as the largest royal complex in Rajasthan. The development of this palace started in 1559, parallel to the establishment of Udaipur city by Maharana Udai Singh and carried on for almost next 300 years. The city palace of Udaipur now runs under the Mewar Trust which generates income from tourism and heritage hotels.
There is a triple arched gate to the palace, with 8 marble arches. It is said that the Maharanas used to be weighed here with gold and silver which was then distributed among the locals.
Lake Palace in Udaipur : Erected above JagNiwas Island in the Pichola lake, The Lake Palace of Udaipur is a stunning palace architecture with 83 rooms. The palace was constructed in the 17th century as a summer palace to the royal dynasty of Mewar and faces the East, so as to allow its inhabitants to worship the Hindu God SUN in the very morning. During 1857 revolution, the Rana offered this palace as an asylum to number of European families in his quest to protect his guests, in the same conquest; he also broke down all the boats of the city so that the rebels could not reach the palace.
Currently, the palace operates as a luxury hotel under the Taj Group of Hotels and the Royal Butlers working here are the descendants of the original palace retainers.
Monsoon Palace in Udaipur : The monsoon palace of Udaipur is a spectacular hilltop residence, overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake. High on the peaks of the Aravalli hills, this palace looks stunning everynight, when illuminated. Much to the cause of its name, this palace was erected by the Mewar dynasty on the top of the cliff, so as to watch the monsoon clouds.
This palace now is under the Government of Rajasthan and recently opened for public. The famous James Bond movie Octopussy in 1983 also features this very palace as the residence to the exiled Afgan prince Kamal Khan.
Shiv Niwas Palace in Udaipur : The Shiv Niwas palace itself is located within the complex of the City palace of Udaipur and it served as a royal guesthouse of the Mewar dynasty. In 1982, like Lake Palace, the Shiv Niwas palace was also converted in to a heritage hotel. This magnificent palace is centered with a beautiful white marble pool with 3-storeyed semi circular arc like floors all around it.

Fateh Prakash Palace in Udaipur : Located on the Eastern shore of Lake Pichola, this place is nothing less than a mini-kingdom from a fairytale, in itself.
