Fatah Sagar Lake is an artificial lake in Udaipur built by Maharana Fateh Singh in 1888, after being washed away by a flood. It is one of the four Lakes of the Udaipur city and is given the nickname of 'Second Kashmir' due to its beautiful blue water and green surrounding. Fatah Sagar Lake is one of the most prominent attractions in Udaipur. There are three small islands situated amidst the lake. Nehru Park is the largest of all the islands and is a popular garden with a restaurant and a zoo. The Nehru Park can access with the help of motor water boats. The Ram Pratap Palace, a residential place of the royal families is also situated on the banks of Fateh Sagar. The Fateh Sagar is connected to Pichola Lake and Rang Sagar Lake by a water canal. Due to the great historic significance and beautiful scenic view, this places is highly visited by tourists from all over the world.

Fateh Sagar Lake History

Fatah Sagar Lake, an artificial lake was initially built by Maharana Jai Singh in the north of Lake Pichola and to the north-west of Udaipur in the year 1678 but it was reconstructed by Maharana Fateh Singh in 1888, after being washed away by a flood.

Duke of Connaught, the third son of Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone for the new construction and named after the king Maharana Fateh Singh.

Events & Festivals in Fateh Sagar

Every year a festival called the Hariyali Amavasya Mela (Green  New Moon  Fair) is organized at the lake precincts, in the month of Shravan. Locals and people from nearby towns gather here to celebrate this festival with great joy.

The festival is celebrated nearby the lake and is visited by thousands of visitors. Apart from festivals, the lake is also popular among event organizers. Many events are held here yearly.

Timings and Price

Boating in Fateh Sagar Lake is one of the most famous activities here. You can hire simple boats, motorboats or speed boats to explore the lake. Boating fees are very nominal and you can enjoy the ride in the lake.

Simple boat rides price ranges from Rs 30-50, Motorboats price ranges from Rs 200- 300 per person while speeding boat charges from Rs 300 -500 for a 30-minute ride in the lake.

The timings for boating are generally from 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM.

How To Reach Fateh Sagar Lake

Tongas (horse-driven two-wheelers), auto-rickshaws and taxis can be hired to reach the lake as well. The nearest railway station Fateh Sagar Lake is Udaipur city railway station and is just 6.8 km away.

Tourists visiting Udaipur can hire a private cab or rickshaw to reach this beautiful destination.
